Heal Thyself

With a child who is on the Spectrum, I spend a lot of time worrying about his health and developmental needs.  Between juggling his therapy appointments, gymnastics in lieu of physical therapy that the city will no longer grant, and getting him to and from school, there’s a lot of things on that list.

The one thing that doesn’t appear on that list – and probably should, for obvious reasons – is my own health needs. Continue reading

Owwies

This morning, while getting the Monster out of bed, the wife discovered that he had a splinter or something in the sole of one of his feet.

Obviously, he’d not said anything at all to us, and we’d not noticed because he’s not been acting funny.  It was simply that she was being observant that we noticed anything at all. Continue reading

A Spoonful of Sugar

Well, the Monster’s fever has broken, from what we can tell, so he’s going back to school tomorrow.

I have to say that it’s been interesting, dealing with his first real illness as a child.  He’s never really been sick – perhaps a sniffle or two, but nothing like this – and it was interesting to deal with. Continue reading

…Like a Dog

As befalls every family at some point – the Monster’s gotten sick.

He’s been coughing for a few days, but hasn’t seemed all the worse for wear until the last few days when he started to show that he was genuinely not doing well.  It was the little things at first, like wanting to go to bed earlier, but over the last day or so, he’s started to want to eat less and less. Under the Weather

So, somewhere in the last few days, both the Monster and I came down with something.  (Which is why this one’s a bit shorter than my norm – I’m still quite under the weather myself.)

I’m only assuming he must have caught it at one of his camps because no one around me in the office has seemed ill.  Of course, the biggest problem is since he’s not the most verbal, we can’t ask him if he’s been feeling unwell. Continue reading
